Saturday, August 14

I have been released from hospital for a short break before the second round of chemotherapy. It was really strange emerging into the noisy "real" world.
All the rain of the last 30 days has made the fields very green and lush.

I returned to my garden to find that Gatekeepers were still flying about. I saw one on my Heliotrope plant and another on Lantana camara. Here's a photo of one resting on a dogwood leaf.

This afternoon, I found a Common Blue feeding on Verbena bonariensis.

There are lots of Whites about but no sign at all of any of the Nymphalidae family.

Your site brings a breath of fresh air into people's lives - yours is the first site I go to when I need to check that I've got the right name.
I wish you a speedy and full recovery, and I'm sure if they could email, then all the butterflies in the world would too!

Dear Linda, It's lovely to see you writing again, if only for a brief spell. I expect you enjoyed seeing some butterflies again in you garden. I would like to wish you good luck with your next treatment, and I hope you make a full recovery. Best wishes Liz

Hello Linda, Annie in Cleethorpes here. I have just had butterfly visitors to my white buddleia only this week, up till then it was covered in bumble bees!! I managed to photograph a Painted Lady and a Peacock, a Small Blue and what I call a "Cabbage White". My purple buddleia has not flowered yet, and it's hardly grown, yet the white is taller than my bungalow roof. I think of you when I see my butterfly visitors and I've never posted here before, but I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish you a speedy recovery but if its not meant to be, I hope Heaven is a beautiful garden full of butterflies. God Bless. Love from Annie (anniebarrnone@yahoo.co.uk)

Greetings from the furthest (from Britain that is) corner of France, by the Swiss border.

Your site is a joy and your photographs a delight.

My thoughts are with you and hundreds of good wishes for your recovery migrate on coloured wings in your direction.

Thank you for your website - a photo of your garden might be a plus too.

Linda, an excellent site. Thankyou so much for helping me identify species during my rekindled interest in buterflies. A comma in our garden yesterday but sadly it flitted away before I could grab the camera.

Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery.

I've only just discovered your excellent site. I have recently moved and have been recreating my butterfly/bee garden. I found your expertise on plants a great help, and have already noticed an increase in butterflies visiting. I was sorry to learn of your illness, and hope you will be better very soon.

I have only just found this site, thankyou for the advice on Sedums, just what I needed to continue my gardening for wildlife through to the Autumn. Along with everyone else, I wish you a very speedy recovery.
Regards
Helen - Hayes, Middx.
