A Brimstone was the first butterfly that I saw this year; it flitted over the flowerbeds of the back garden at lunchtime. My husband had just reported seeing two Brimstones and a Peacock butterfly.
This afternoon I went out for a walk to see the butterflies for myself. I saw Brimstone butterflies but at this time of year they are moving too quickly to photograph. I photographed Comma and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies.

I saw the Small Tortoiseshell butterflies on both celandines and crocus at two different places in Cirencester.

I saw Comma butterflies in many places too and watched them chase the Brimstones.
I hope the fine weather continues over the weekend and that we get to see more butterflies.

Hi Linda, I'm pleased to see you are gardening again, and out for walks. You look very well in your photo. You found quite a few butterflies! I live in Faversham, Kent, and have seen one small tortoiseshell in my garden this week. Best wishes Liz
Hi Linda, I'm pleased to see you are out and about and enjoying the warm spring weather. Managed to sit out today for the first time this year and was rewarded with 2 Small Tortoiseshells. It has been very cold here for 3 + weeks but spring has now arrived. The frogs are busy spawning and croaking in the pond and bumble bees are very active. All the best, Steve.
Hello Linda, Good to be hearing from you again. I only found your blog late last year and when entries ceased in December I was concerned for you. I enjoy the butterflies in my garden in Australia but of course they are different ones, and the plants are mostly different too. Still, I love reading about your garden and there are many things I can learn. Thank you! - Jude
