Lovely sunny day today and not windy. Where were the butterflies? Not here. I saw a few Whites and one Small Tortoiseshell butterfly on a Buddleia. I've been busy dead-heading the Buddleia bushes today.

Hi Linda, I'm suddenly very cross with myself, I was checking your site for the large tortoiseshell, but couldn't find it. Went to google and discovered it is supposed to be extinct in the UK. I'm almost sure (and wished I'd paid more attention)that I had a large tortoiseshell in my garden today in Kent. I also wish I had a digital camera, to snap it with!! I'm also glad to see that you said you were dead-heading budlia, I wondered if you did, I was doing just that at the time I saw the butterfly! Best wishes Liz
